Literacy Network received a $50,000 AT&T community investment today to support its digital literacy programs for underserved adults, helping to bridge the digital divide for those in need in the Madison area.

The $50,000 AT&T community investment will support Literacy Network’s Essential Literacy program, which provides adults with one-on-one literacy tutoring, including instruction in basic computer skills and online platforms, to help them achieve economic mobility and social stability.

“AT&T’s generous contribution will help Literacy Network support Dane County adults in building their digital literacy,” said Robin Ryan, Executive Director, Literacy Network. “Through our Essential Literacy program, students gain reading, writing and basic computer skills that help them find meaningful employment, support their families, and navigate daily life. We are grateful for AT&T’s investment in our community and its commitment to helping more adults thrive in today’s digital world."

Essential Literacy students work on personalized lesson plans toward individual goals, including gaining confidence using computers and smartphones for everyday needs – from job and housing applications to finances, communication with children’s schools, and online information.

“AT&T is proud to support Literacy Network’s work to help adults in Dane County build the digital skills they need to participate fully in today’s economy and everyday life,” said Robyn Gruner, Director of External Affairs, AT&T Wisconsin. “This contribution reflects AT&T’s commitment to helping bridge the digital divide by expanding access to the tools, training and support that empower people to learn, work and stay connected.”

These efforts are part of AT&T’s initiative to help address the digital divide through internet accessibility, affordability, and safe adoption. AT&T is committing $5 billion to help 25 million people get and stay connected to high-speed internet by 2030.

According to U.S. Census Bureau data, millions nationwide, including in Wisconsin, still don’t have access to the internet or connected devices needed to fully participate in the online world – an issue known as the digital divide.
