Madison, Wis. – The Madison Metropolitan School District Board of Education has voted 6-0, with one member absent, to accept One City Schools’ initial charter application and formally invite them to submit a detailed proposal for administrative review and final board consideration in fall of 2028. One City Schools, Inc. submitted its application on Friday, August 14, after notifying MMSD of its intent to submit. 

“One City Schools already serves over 300 of our community’s children and families. Bringing them into the MMSD family is an exciting prospect, and I look forward to One City and our administration working together to build a robust, thoughtful proposal that serves our community,” Board Chair Savion Castro said. 

The Board’s yes vote marks the beginning of an intentional, collaborative design phase. MMSD staff and One City Schools will work side by side to develop a comprehensive proposal to present to the Board of Education for consideration in fall 2028.  

Vice President Blair Mosner-Feltham added, "Advancing to this next phase gives us a wonderful opportunity to engage deeply with our community, explore possibilities, and collaborate transparently about what this partnership might look like.”

The overall application process, detailed in MMSD Board Policy 10000, includes multiple reviews, a public hearing and an administrative analysis before any final votes are taken.
